The 2022 auction will be held on February 12th and 13 in Bengaluru. This year’s auction is going to be a mega auction, and with the addition of two new franchises, a few players may end up becoming Premier League millionaires. Here we look at three such players who may end up earning huge salaries in the upcoming even.
Shreyas Iyer
The 27-year-old is a proven batting talent and has had success as a captain in the Premier League. He has age on his side as well, and franchises may look at building a core group of players around him, much like Delhi Capitals did when he was made the captain in 2018.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings would be looking for captaincy, and Iyer could potentially be a long-term solution for any team that he joins. So, expect teams to be willing to spend huge sums on Iyer, and he may well break a few auction records in the process.
Ishan Kishan
Indian wicketkeeper-batters have always been highly sought after in IPL auctions, as they help franchises balance their teams in a big way. In this year’s auction pool, there are no better options when it comes to Indian wicketkeeper-batters than Ishan Kishan. A fierce hitter of the cricket ball, he hit an astonishing 30 sixes in the 2020 edition of the tournament and makes runs with great consistency.
In the last two seasons, Kishan has scored 757 runs, including six fifties. In these two editions, he averages over 40 with a strike rate above 140. He is also just 23, which makes him a worthwhile investment for the future. He can bat at the top of the order and in the middle overs and may well break all records for the most expensive buys.
Jason Holder
Given how well Holder has performed for the Sunrisers in the last two IPL seasons, it is hard to believe that he had gone unsold initially in the 2020 auction. Sunrisers only later signed him as a replacement for the injured Mitchell Marsh. His performances since have, however, made sure that he will attract a lot of attention at this auction.
The West Indies international has taken 30 wickets in his IPL career at an average of 16 and has scored 151 runs; not a big number, but these runs have mostly come at important junctures for his team.
Holder is a fast-bowling allrounder, and with the likes of Ben Stokes not in the auction pool this time, teams are likely to bid for him fiercely. What makes him even more valuable is the fact that he has captained Windies, and a few franchises could do with an experienced leader like him captaining their team.
