Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer also posted a heartfelt message for head coach Anil Kumble, as he wished the Punjab franchise luck ahead of the Indian Premier League mega auctions.
The 43-year-old has announced his resignation from his role as batting coach of the PBKS and made the revelation notoriously close to the 2022 mega auction, which is set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.
The witty veteran made the announcement via a hilarious meme featuring popular Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor. Jaffer’s announcement garnered a lot of attention from fans, who were extremely amused with the meme and also congratulated him on his tenure at the Punjab franchise.
Jaffer is an undisputed stalwart of the Indian domestic circuit, holding the distinction of being the first to feature in 150 Ranji Trophy games. He had a lengthy and illustrious career, even featuring for the national side on quite a few occasions.
After his retirement from domestic cricket, he joined the then Kings XI Punjab for the 2019 season and worked with the support staff until the 2021 season, when he joined former Indian head coach and current Director of Cricket Operations for Punjab Kings Anil Kumble.
Jaffer’s surprising departure from the franchise came as a stunning revelation to many. However, Jaffer somewhat softened the blow, as he shared a meme, which referenced well-known actor Kapoor’s 2016 movie Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Jaffer also left a heart-touching message for head coach Anil Kumble.
The Punjab Kings will have their task cut out during the auctions, as they have retained only two players ahead of the 2022 edition following a period of turmoil during the last few seasons. Former captain KL Rahul chose to leave the franchise and has joined the Lucknow Super Giants as captain. The Punjab franchise has managed to tie down Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal and uncapped fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.
The Kings have Rs.72 Crore left in their purse but also have the most challenging task at hand, with almost an entire squad to build.

Punjab also have uncertainty regarding their captain, with many feeling that the franchise might spend big on a captain during the auction. Meanwhile, there are many who also feel that the Mohali-based franchise must give Agarwal the responsibility and instead focus on building a strong squad.
