A total of 590 players are set to go under the hammer in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction on February 12 and 13.
The Indian Premier League 2022 brings you two brand new franchises, and with it, an exciting few months starting with the mega auction. The IPL is expanding into a 10-team affair with Lucknow Supergiants and Gujarat Titans joining the race. All the 10 teams will be building their squad for the IPL 2022 through the mega auction that is set to take place at Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
The 10 franchises will be fiercely bidding for some of the biggest names in world cricket. Marquee names such as David Warner, Pat Cummins, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Faf du Plessis, Jonny Bairstow are up for grabs.
As many as 48 players have set their base price at INR 2 cr – the highest category. 20 players have put their name in the INR 1.5 cr bracket while 34 players have set their base price at INR 1 cr.
A total of 370 Indian and 220 overseas players will be available in the pool in a two-day mega auction that promises to be an action-packed, intense event.
Kishan or Iyer – who will be the costliest player?
The 10-team mega auction offers an incredible opportunity for cricketers all over the world to get lucrative contracts. Indians, in particular, are always in high demand in the auctions and, more so if they are established, international players.
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are two of the biggest Indian options in the 2022 auction pool, and the franchises will go crazy for them. Iyer, who has played 32 T20Is, 25 ODIs and two Test matches for India, has done fairly well at the international level.
He also captained Delhi Capitals from 2018 to 2020 and has expressed his desire to be a captain. Several franchisees are in need of a captain and are expected to bid big on him.
Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, is a destructive wicketkeeper batter, who solves multiple slot requirements. Being a left-hander and flexible to bat at the top or middle order works in his favour. Kishan is only 23, and can be a long term investment.
He had an incredible season in Mumbai Indians‘ title-winning campaign in 2020 and has done well for India since then. All these factors make him one of the most attractive options in the auction.
Jason Holder, Warner, Bairstow, and Cummins will be in contention for the highest-priced overseas player in the mega auction 2022.
