Former Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell believes that despite Bukayo Saka’s phenomenal rise recently, he isn’t valued more than Manchester City’s Jack Grealish. Campbell, who netted 46 goals in 228 games for Arsenal between 1988 and 1995, also discussed the possibility of Youri Tielemans making a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Midfielder Jack Grealish became the most expensive British footballer in August 2020 when Manchester City activated a 100-million-pound release clause in his Aston Villa contract to sign him. The England international was also handed the number 10 shirt. But despite plenty of expectations and hype, he’s yet to sort his feet out at his new club.
When it comes to promising young English wingers bursting onto the scene, Saka probably leads the list. The attacker carried Arsenal for the majority of the previous season and has churned in consistent performances.
Jack Grealish vs Bukayo Saka in 2021/2022 season
Name (age) | Matches / minutes played across all tournaments | Goals | Assists |
Jack Grealish (26) | 24 / 1,753 out of possible 2,160 | 3 | 3 |
Bukayo Saka (20) | 26 / 1,963 out of possible 2,340 | 7 | 4 |
Despite his phenomenal rise, the former Arsenal striker rejects claims that Saka is valued more in the market than Grealish. He also suggested that fans tend to overvalue their own players, but he estimates that Saka is worth ‘maybe 80 million pounds’ in the current market.
“If they think we are a selling club. Because that young man could bring serious bread in.
No, no, no they aren’t worth hundreds of millions. We (fans) would say ‘yes, they are’. But they aren’t. Saka doesn’t have the resumé Grealish has got. Saka carried Arsenal for one season. He is brilliant. But he is young.”
They are dreaming. No chance, he’s not. I am telling you, he’s not. – I don’t think Saka is £100 million yet. He is maybe £80 million, maybe £90 million. He needs more goals,”
the 52-year-old told YouTube channel Highbury Squad.
While Arsenal have been extremely interested in acquiring the services of James Maddison in recent months, albeit unsuccessfully, Campbell believes that it’s also worth taking a look at his Leicester City teammate Youri Tielemans instead.
The former Arsenal man wants to see the Belgian at the Emirates Stadium next season as he has been very impressed with what the midfielder has achieved with the Foxes so far.
