Rishabh Pant is pretty excited ahead of his captaincy debut for the Delhi Capitals. His first game at the helm will be against his mentor and former India skipper MS Dhoni and his Chennai Super Kings, which Pant is looking forward to.
It’s been a terrific turnaround for Rishabh Pant. In the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he wasn’t in the best of forms, his fitness wasn’t at its best either, and the Indian team management came down hard on him.
However, the Delhi wicket-keeper batsman worked hard and has worked his way to the top once again. Ever since he came into the Indian side for the Boxing Day Test match in Australia, Pant hasn’t looked back. Be it with the bat or with the gloves. His game has constantly been on the rise. He put in some fabulous performances in all three formats and has become a vital cog in the Indian team.
To cap of the season, Pant was named the Delhi Capitals captain for the upcoming 2021 season of the IPL after Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to a shoulder injury. This will be Pant’s first stint as captain in the IPL. He has led his state side, Delhi, before, but it’s been in a limited capacity.
The swashbuckling 23-year-old wicket-keeper batsman is pretty excited to lead the side. Moreover, his captaincy debut will be against Chennai Super Kings who will be led by Pant’s mentor and former India skipper MS Dhoni. Hence, Pant feels it will be a good experience for him to lead the side against CSK as he has learnt a lot from Dhoni.
“I am very excited that I’ll be captaining for the first time and the first game will be against Mahi bhai. It’ll be a good experience as I’ve learnt a lot from him and I have a lot of experience from my life too, so we’ll try to mix that up and to do something new and different with CSK this year,” Pant was quoted saying in an interview to Delhi Capitals.
Delhi Capitals start their IPL 2021 campaign against Chennai Super Kings on the 10th of April at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
