On January 5, the Indian Under-19 squad won their fifth World Cup Title, defeating the England U-19s in the final of the ICC U-19 World Cup at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound.
The young Indian bowlers were at the top of their game as they bundled out the English batsmen for a meagre 189. The England batting order was comprehensively outplayed, apart from James Rew, who played a good fighting knock of 95.
Raj Angad Bawa was the destroyer-in-chief, picking up five wickets while conceding just 31 runs. Left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar was also excellent, as he scalped four wickets for 34 runs.
In reply, the Indian batsmen didn’t get off to the best of starts, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi falling off the second ball of the innings. However, Harnoor Singh and Shaik Rasheed stabilised the Indian innings. Rasheed scored a composed half-century as India marched towards victory.
They did suffer a minor scare when both Rasheed and Dhull were dismissed in quick succession, but Nishanth Sindhu and Raj Bawa closed down the game with excellent innings, as India wrapped up the game, and the World Cup title, in a game that was a lot closer than it should have been, after what transpired in the first innings.
