Former Chattogram Challengers captain Mehidy Hassan Miraz’ dramatic exit from the side, followed by a statement in the media criticising CEO Yasir Alam, has created quite a stir and has resulted in the governing body of the Bangladesh Premier League making the decision to launch a formal investigation into the matter.
Mehidy Hassan Miraz stormed out of the team hotel, and the biosecure bubble after a misunderstanding with the team management snowballed into a huge controversy, leading to Miraz’ alleged sacking as captain merely three hours before their BPL match.
The player has declared that CEO Yasir Alam bears too much of an influence in the matters of the team, and that he will not represent the franchise as long as Alam is associated with it.
BPL Governing Council Chairman Sheikh Sohel has now come out and said that the board will now launch an investigation into the matter, and that it will aim to dig up all the details without making a public spectacle out of the situation. It was a nervous situation surrounding the incident as Miraz walked out of the tournament, just minutes before the start of a match.
Sohel also expressed his dismay over the two parties, as he said that neither side acted professionally and added that he expected some level of internal resolution of the matter, without making a massive episode out of it in the public.
“When (Ismail Haider) Mallick bhai, CEO (Nizamuddin Chowdhury) and I discussed the matter after hearing of it yesterday, we felt both (Mehidy Hasan) Miraz and the (Chattogram Challengers’) management were at fault,”
Sohel remarked.
“Miraz, being a top player from the national team, shouldn’t have done this during the tournament. He should have waited, since we are in the disciplinary committee. The franchise also caused a problem.
They should have been more patient. They could have discussed the matter among themselves. This shouldn’t have become such a big incident. We will also not let them go. We will do a hearing shortly. We will ask both parties to attend it.”
he added.
Sohel also made it clear that the board nor the anti-corruption body had noticed any foul play or suspicious activity in the matter so far, and will get to the root of the problem before the incident worsens. Sohel also hoped that the incident would be sorted out behind closed doors and that such a scenario was completely avoidable.
“We are yet to observe anything suspicious. What we have seen through the press conference is that there was a miscommunication. We will call them for a hearing and will try to know the entire matter. Not only this but BCB’s anti-corruption team closely follows every game.
We have one person from the anti-corruption unit with each team and they are monitoring closely. Not only BCB, the ICC is also following everything properly.”
Sohel said.
