Manchester United have pulled Mason Greenwood merchandise from their online store, just as EA Sports have decided to take the player’s likeness out of their popular FIFA game. The investigation, meanwhile, surrounding the player continues.
Manchester United have stopped selling Mason Greenwood-branded merchandise on their official online store. The club’s action comes after the player’s arrest on January 30 on suspicion of rape and assault against his girlfriend, Harriet Robson. The Greater Manchester Police also released a statement on February 1, stating that the player was “further arrested” on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
“Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman,”
read the statement.

“The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday (January 30) afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow (Wednesday, February 2).
“Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.”
While the investigation continues, EA Sports have decided to remove Greenwood from active squads in their popular video game FIFA. This means that the player won’t be available to trade in the Ultimate Team mode – a quirk of which saw his price rise by 300 per cent recently before being controlled by EA – and he will also be absent from other online and offline multiplayer modes, and the offline, single-player career mode until further notice.
Manchester United shirt sponsor TeamViewer, too, have stated that they are monitoring the developments of the Greenwood case as it happens. Another one of the club’s exclusive partners, Cadbury, have decided not to use the player’s image on their products as the investigation continues.
Furthermore, sports apparel giants Nike, who signed a sponsorship deal with the 20-year-old, have chosen to suspend the partnership in light of the allegations against him.
For the time being, Manchester United have also decided not to call Greenwood up for first-team training and matches. The player was released on bail on Wednesday morning.
