The Gunners managed to sign a player before the transfer window slammed shut, albeit not one the fans had been waiting for. Liverpool failed in their approach to sign one themselves but could resurrect a move in the summer.
Arsenal confirmed the signing of Auston Trusty from Colorado Rapids late during the deadline day. The USMNT U20 international, who is left-footed and plays as a centre-back, will remain in the MLS until the summer, after which he will journey to London to officially join his new club.
The 23-year-old becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the winter window; the North London club also captured New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner on a similar deal, leaving him in the country until the summer.
Meanwhile, despite late complications, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will join FC Barcelona permanently – reports The Athletic. The Gabon international fell out with manager Mikel Arteta and was subsequently shunned from first-team-related matters, starting from mid-December.
Fast forward to deadline day, the two clubs – and the player – were locked in negotiations to find a solution for all parties concerned before time ran out.
A compromise was reached, seemingly, allowing the forward to sign for Barcelona on a six-month deal with the option to extend it by a year further, thus bringing his Arsenal tenure to an end. A confirmation of the same should arrive in due time.
Over in Merseyside, Liverpool, too, found themselves in a race against time to get the signing of Fabio Carvalho over the line. The Reds had negotiated a fee with Fulham for their prized asset while also agreeing to leave the 19-year-old at Craven Cottage until the end of the season.
But, the move collapsed because Liverpool were unable to complete the required paperwork in time. Nonetheless, Jurgen Klopp and Co are expected to be back for the youngster in the summer.

Liverpool did sanction a couple of exits in the last hours of deadline day. The Reds allowed centre-back Nathaniel Phillips to join AFC Bournemouth for the remainder of the season and permitted Neco Williams from doing the same at Fulham.
