LSG, one of the two new franchises set to enter the Indian Premier League from this year onwards, presented their logo on January 31. The franchise, which will be led by Indian opening batter KL Rahul, said the logo has been designed taking inspiration from ancient mythology.
The franchise unveiled the badge through their official Twitter handle, with the expression of the sentiment:
“Soaring towards greatness. Lucknow Super Giants is all set to stretch its wings. Prepare for greatness!”
The logo has a bat with a ball in the middle separating two sides of the wings, which carry the tri-colour design of the Indian national flag.
The Super Giants also explained the rationale behind adopting this logo via a statement.
“The mythical bird Garuda- who is a protector and enthroned with the power to move swiftly, has inspired us to create the winged emblem of the team. Garuda is omnipresent in every Indian culture and sub-culture,”
“The tri-colour wings of the entity, symbolically represent Lucknow Super Giants’ Pan -India appeal. The body of the bird has been formed by a blue coloured bat to signify the game of cricket, there is a red ball with an orange seam too. It is like an auspicious ‘Jay tilak’.”
the statement read.
The Lucknow franchise has been in the news ever since it was bought last year. The franchise was purchased at a whopping sum of INR 7,090 crores by Rajiv Goenka-owned RPSG group, which previously owned the now-disbanded Rising Pune Supergiants franchise in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
Soon after their unprecedented purchasing sum dropped jaws across the cricketing world, the team appointed former India batter Gautam Gambhir as the team mentor, who is believed to carry a powerful voice in their decision-making.
This followed the announcement of Lucknow’s three pre-auction draft signings. They confirmed Rahul’s appointment as the team’s skipper after signing him for another astonishing sum of INR 17 crores.
The team also drafted Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis for INR 9.2 crores and roped in uncapped Indian wristspinner Ravi Bishnoi for INR 4 crores.
The much-awaited mega auction for the IPL 2022 will be held in Bangalore on February 12 and 13.
