In what was another action-packed rivalry week game, Gujarat Giants beat Haryana Steelers by 32-26 and Dabangg Delhi beat U Mumba by 36-30 on January 31.
In the first game of the night, the Giants came with rejuvenated energy as they displayed an all-round game to come on top of the Steelers. The Giants found a couple of new players standing up for them in the raiding department as Ajay Kumar completed his Super 10, scoring a total of 11 raid points.
He was ably supported by Pardeed Kumar, who scored nine raid points. In defence, the experienced duo of Parvesh and Girish managed three tackle points each. Ravindra Pahal, who was making a comeback after couple of weeks, didn’t have a huge impact on the game as he earned a solitary point.
For Haryana Steelers, it was mostly a one-man show as their captain Vikas Khandola tried his best to keep his team in the game. He scored seven raid points, but no other raider in the starting seven could manage more than three raid points. Meetu came as a substitute and got eight raid points, but it wasn’t sufficient to close the gap.
Haryana’s defence didn’t click at all as even Jaideep, their best defender this season, had a subpar game as he could manage only a couple of tackle points.
After this win, the Giants now have 33 points from 13 games, and they sit in 11th position and the Steelers even after this loss are still in the top 4.
In the second match of the night between the two metropolitan cities, Dabangg Delhi KC came on top of U Mumba.
Delhi’s raiders particularly were most impressive as they again stepped up in the absence of Naveen Kumar and brought more raid points than their counterparts in Mumba. Vijay scored a Super 10 and 11 raid points in total. He was ably supported by Ashu Malik and Neeraj Narwal, who earned eight and six raid points, respectively.
None of the Mumba raiders could really support Abhishek Singh, who managed eight raid points. The substitute, Shivam, tried his best, but he could only manage six raid points.
In defence for Dabang Delhi, Manjeet Chillar stepped up yet again, as he scored four tackle points. For Mumba though, their defence played comparatively better than Delhi’s as Fazel, Ajeet, and Harendra Kumar scored three tackle points each. But in the end, because of the non performance of the raiders, Mumba lost the game.
With this win, Dabang Delhi have consolidated their position at the top of the table with 53 points from 15 games. Mumba are at the fifth spot with 42 points from 14 matches.
