Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been arrested by the Greater Manchester Police after images and audio files emerged with supposed proof of rape and physical assault that the 20-year-old allegedly caused to his fiancee Harriet Robson, over the course of the past few months, in what seems to have been a very troubled relationship.
The Manchester United forward has been arrested by the local police department over suspicion of rape and assault after his girlfriend’s social media handles were flooded with supposedly incriminating evidence against Greenwood. The images, videos, and audio files have since been taken down, as they could be used as evidence in a court of law.
Greater Manchester Police have informed the public that it had come to their notice that there were “social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence”. The statement added, “we can confirm a man in his 20s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault”.
Greenwood has been taken into custody for inquiry into the matter and will face questioning from the competent authorities.
United have not said much regarding the matter, but issued a statement saying that they were made aware of the developments that had taken place with regards to the personal life of the player and have decided not to comment on the matter until such time as “the facts of the case have been established”.
However, the club have suspended Greenwood indefinitely and will not attend training, nor will he feature in any of United’s matches or advertising until further notice. The club has made it absolutely clear that they “do not condone violence of any kind“.
The media has been rife with speculations regarding the unfortunate circumstances surrounding Greenwood and Robson, with some reports even claiming that United will be terminating the player’s contract following the events of Sunday morning.
Some quotes, allegedly made by Robson’s father, also claim that he said that his daughter’s social media accounts were hacked, and that the two were in a tense relationship for the past few months.
Should the evidence prove to be incriminating, the England international could face heavy punishment, including jail time.
