While Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United continues to be shrouded in uncertainty, new reports now claim that he could end up changing his stance and agreeing to a new contract. However, that will depend on the decision that United take regarding their managerial situation.
Pogba’s second spell at Manchester United has been far from a success. Touted to be the most promising youngster in the world when he was re-signed from Juventus, the World Cup-winning midfielder has hardly lived up to those expectations and has been erratic and inconsistent.
His current contract at United expires in June, and his current stance is against renewing it. Although the Red Devils aren’t keen on losing him and have offered him a new contract, Pogba’s decision regarding the matter is expected to be final.
However, according to a recent report by The Sun, Pogba might change his mind only on one condition. If current interim manager Ralf Rangnick is named as Manchester United’s permanent manager, the 28-year-old might be open to the idea of extending his stay at Old Trafford.
The report also states that Pogba has held several discussions with the head coach and has been left impressed by his ideas regarding the team and how they should approach their football. Pogba believes the German will be looking to build the team around him in midfield, and this could force him to make a U-turn and put pen to paper to a new deal.
The last few months of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign left a fractured dressing room at Old Trafford with little to no harmony between the players. The German interim manager also believes Pogba can take up a leadership position in the dressing room like he does in the French national team.
“It’s not a question if a player has an expiring contract, the question is how much does he still want to be a part of this group,”
“As long as this is the case, why shouldn’t Paul Pogba now show the fans of Manchester United, the board, the whole world what kind of player he can be?
Even if it’s only to show enough for a new contract elsewhere, he will be highly motivated to do that and why should I then not play him?”
Rangnick had said regarding Pogba earlier this month.
While it was widely believed that both Pogba and his agent are looking for new suitors, the new information offers hope to United faithful. The French midfielder is still recovering from injury and is yet to make an appearance under Rangnick.
