Spurs boss Antonio Conte is keen on signing the 25-year-old Spain international who has just a year and a half left on his contract at the Molineux Stadium.
The Italian wants to bolster his squad before the conclusion of the January winter transfer window, reports Sky Sports. However, he has seen a setback in that regard, with Wolves rejecting Tottenham’s initial 15 million pounds offer for winger Adama Traore.
Although Wolves manager Bruno Lage is well aware that the side needs to offload players before signing new ones this season, they are hesitant to part with Adama so easily and have asked Tottenham to raise their offer.
Conte has been squeezing the best out of Tottenham’s players, who are currently on a nine-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, which included the recent comeback against Leicester City in the dying embers of the match. The tactician believes he can use Traore in the wing-back role, similar to how he had utilized forward Victor Moses during his stint with Chelsea a few years ago.
Wolves are reporetdly looking for a sum of 25 million pounds in order to offload the Spain international. They had signed Traore from Middlesbrough for 18 million pounds in August 2018.
The 25-year-old has scored eight goals and created 22 big chances in 159 Premier League appearances so far in his career, but many believe that his best years are ahead of him. Tottenham chief will probably end up backing Conte and give in to Wolves’ asking price.
Meanwhile, Conte has also expressed an interest in Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, who had a successful outing on loan at West Ham last season. Lingard hasn’t seen much game time since returning to Old Trafford, and his services have also been enquired by Newcastle United.
Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, who has also been heavily linked with Newcastle United, is also being monitored by the club from north London.
They might have to wrestle with Newcastle United in order to tempt the 28-year-old to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Sun had earlier reported that Newcastle saw a 30-million-pound bid for Carlos being rejected.
Many sources believe that Spurs will only be willing to spend nearly 50 million pounds on the twin transfers of Carlos and Traore. It remains to be seen how the negotiations progress over the next few days and whether Tottenham chief Daniel Levy ends up increasing his financial demands.
