The Indians posted a brilliant 174-run victory over Ireland, while the Aussies won the encounter against the Scotland U19 national team by seven wickets.
The Indian camp has had a massive coronavirus outbreak, with six players testing positive for the virus, leaving the Indians with just 11 available players, who took the field on January 19.
India took on Ireland amidst a Covid outbreak within the squad, as they fielded the only 11 available players. Irish captain Tim Tector won the toss and elected to field, which turned out to be quite detrimental in the end. Indian openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Harnoor Singh played splendid innings, scoring 79 and 88, respectively, putting the Indians in a commanding position.
Raj Angad Bawa and stand-in skipper Nishanth Sindhu contributed valuable runs before wonder kid Rajvardhan Hangargekar played a blinder, scoring 39 in just 17 deliveries, including five sixes, taking India to 307/5 after 50 overs.
Chasing a daunting 308, the Irish batsmen hardly posed any threat to the Indians, as the entire batting order fell like nine pins. The Indian bowlers steamrolled the opposition, who folded in no time, scoring just 133 in response to India’s 307. Harnoor received the man of the match award for his brilliant 88 as Indians notched up an important win in challenging circumstances.
The Scots took on the men from Down Under in a Group D encounter at Basseterre. Aussie captain Cooper Connolly won the toss and elected to put Scotland into bat. The decision seemed to backfire initially as the Scottish top-order played well to put the team at 150-2 at the 35 over stage.
However, the Scots were unable to capitalise on the good platform, as a spirited performance from the Aussie bowlers meant that they were restricted to a sub-par 236/8.
In response, the Aussies hardly broke a sweat chasing the total, with the openers registering an excellent century stand, essentially ending the contest.
Number three batsman Aidan Cahill continued the onslaught with Teague Wyllie, who scored a fine century to take Australia home. The Australians posted a big victory, winning by seven wickets with 61 balls to spare. Wyllie was rightfully awarded the man of the match for his terrific innings.
