In Saturday’s double-header, U Mumba registered a comprehensive win against Telugu Titans whereas the Patna Pirates won a tense encounter against the Gujarat Giants by just one point.
The Telegu Titans continued to struggle as they succumbed to yet another defeat at the hands of U Mumba by a 48-38 scoreline on Saturday. What makes their loss even more disappointing is the big margin of defeat. This was also their fifth loss of the season in seven games, and they haven’t won any game either.
U Mumba dominated the match right from the start and gained 28-13 lead at half-time. The game was pretty much done right there. Even though the Titans scored 25 points in the second half as compared to U Mumba’s 20, it didn’t turn out to be enough to undo the damage done in the first half.
Mumba raider Abhishek Singh was on fire as he scored 13 points. Ajith Kumar also supported him well with eight points from six raids. The efforts of the Titans’ raiders Galla Raju (8), Rakesh Gowda (7) and Ankit Beniwal (6) went in vain as the defence completely failed.
Patna Pirates jump up to the second position
The second match of the day between the Patna Pirates and Gujarat Giants went right down to the wire. The Giants were in the game right until the two-point raid from Prasanth Rai in the second half. That extended Patna’s lead to three points with not much time left. The Giants did reduce the deficit by a couple of points in the last few minutes to lose the match, but that didn’t turn out to be enough as they ultimately lost by a solitary point.
Prashanth Kumar Rai was the star of the match for Patna as he scored 8 points from seven raids. Sachin scored six points from five raids as well, whereas Sajin Chandrasekar shone in defence, accumulating a total of five points.
The Giants had crucial contributions from raiders Mahendra GameShark Rajput (7) and Rakesh Narwal (6). Hadi Oshtorak picked up four points from a single raid as well but their efforts went in vain as they still went on to lose.
