The German said that the player was willing to accept his responsibility and also make amends for it with his performances on the pitch. Lukaku missed two games after giving an interview where he mentioned that he had Inter Milan in his heart and was ”not happy” at Chelsea.
“There will be some discipline action and he will accept it. It’s not a small thing, it’s not the biggest thing and it doesn’t make a comeback impossible – absolutely not.
This is what we prove now. But something happened and he will be fined and he needs to accept it.”
Tuchel said.
He also thanked Chelsea’s director Marina Granovskaia and everyone involved in the hierarchy for backing him throughout the time they dealt with this situation. He mentioned that there was no chaos involved in the way it was dealt with Lukaku, and the player sat with him and the management staff to discuss the entire scenario.
Lukaku, who made a club-record 97.5-million-pound move to Chelsea from Italian champions Inter Milan, scored seven goals in 18 appearances for the club before missing a few games due to an injury.
Chelsea were in the market for a prolific striker after Timo Werner’s signing from last season didn’t go down as per expectation. The Blues made a massive bid to get Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, but the German club were adamant to shrug off any deal involving the forward.
Eventually, Chelsea went with Lukaku, who played a crucial role in helping Inter win their first league title in over a decade. In his message to the fans, the striker acknowledged that the fans are hurt with his recent interview and will make up for it on the field.
