Manchester United strengthened their hold on second place in the Premier League table following a win over Brighton. The Red Devils fell behind to an early Danny Welbeck goal. However, Bruno Fernandes provided the assist for the equalizer, only to be scythed down by Joel Veltman.
As Bruno Fernandes writhed in agony, his teammates celebrated the equalizing goal against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday. The Portuguese midfielder provided the key pass to Marcus Rashford for the levelling goal but was on the end of a late challenge by Brighton defender Joel Veltman.
In an interview with MUTV, Fernandes slammed Veltman for almost breaking his ankle. However, he stated his happiness at the fact that the team scored and was especially delighted with the goalscorer.
I didn’t see it because someone almost broke my ankle!
the United star told MUTV.
But I’m happy for the team, I am happy for Marcus.
It was a good effort because as everyone knows he has come back from injury and he’s helped us.
This effort comes from everyone. The press for the first goal was good, it made them do the wrong ball and I recovered the ball and passed to Marcus and he scores. Everyone is happy when we win and it doesn’t matter who scores.
Manchester United came from a goal down to beat Brighton 2-1. The Red Devils fell behind to an early header from ex-player Danny Welbeck. The Seagulls’ star got second time lucky, as his initial header was deflected onto his path by Dean Henderson.
Nevertheless, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men hit back with Rashford. The England striker deftly finished past Robert Sanchez in the Brighton goal, thus rewarding them for their sustained pressure. United then grabbed the winner late on in the match through Mason Greenwood, after Sanchez and Ben Whited failed to stop the teenager’s header on the goal-line.
Manchester United strengthened their hold on second place as a result. Meanwhile, Leicester City were beaten by Manchester City in their Premier League encounter, much to the Red Devils’ benefit.
