The Liverpool full-back has been in the form of his life this season and has been one of the best in the business, helping the club escalate to newer heights. The Reds currently are in contention for all four titles, having already reached the EFL Cup semi-final, and are among the favorites to win the Champions League and Premier League crown.
The right-back has appreciated the current competition that is on for the title, with Manchester City leading the title chase, with Liverpool and Chelsea being in touching distance. When he asked about the rival players he would’ve picked if he were Liverpool manager, he mentioned his admiration for City’s Kevin de Bruyne and Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min.
“De Bruyne because I admire him a lot as a player. His vision, his technique, his accuracy. Outstanding player. The assists and the chances created he does is frightening. Son, again, an outstanding player. The speed, finishing and composure,”
he said in an interview with Daily Mail.
De Bruyne and Alexander-Arnold have been in numerous memorable tussles over the years, and the Belgian has always had the upper hand over the English defender. The midfielder managed to get on the scoresheet earlier this year at Anfield when both these sides played out a frantic 2-2 draw. As it stands, the Belgian has not been in the best of goal-scoring form and has four goals to his credit in the league.
Arnold also mentioned about the pace, finishing and composure exhibited by South Korean Son Heung-Min, who has been one of the most impressive players in the Premier League over the last five years. Having become a star under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs forward has managed to maintain his elite status with crucial goals every now and then and is expected to be a kingpin under Antonio Conte.
Son and Arnold had some fantastic head-to-head battles in the recently concluded 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur stadium, a game which had its own share of controversies. Son managed to get his customary goal in big fixtures alongside Harry Kane, whilst Diogo Jota and Andrew Robertson scored for the Reds.
Alexander-Arnold is having a dream season and seems to be touching distances he never did before. He has made eight assists in the ongoing Premier League campaign and scored two stunning goals, including an absolute belter against Newcastle United. He has been leading Liverpool’s title charge this season, and has been the most prolific attacking player in the league, having created more chances and delivered more crosses than any other player.
Liverpool’s title challenge took a small dent in North London when they dropped points in the most dramatic circumstances against Tottenham. Manager Jurgen Klopp was left fuming by the fact that Robertson was given a red for his challenge on Emerson Royal, but Kane’s similar challenge on Robertson was deemed not harmful by the VAR.
They also dropped points against West Ham at the London stadium when they lost 3-2, whilst Manchester City went on an eight-match winning streak keeping them in total command of defending their league crown. Chelsea, who managed to remain in the top spot for the most part of the league thus far, have fallen behind in the title chase after dropping points against Manchester United, The Hammers and Wolverhampton.
They have been in stellar form in the Champions League as well, becoming the first English team in tournament history to win all six group games. They have been drawn to play alongside Italian champions Inter Milan in the round of 16. `
