Loc Blancos forward Borja Mayoral, who is currently on loan at AS Roma in Italy, has been linked with a shocking transfer to Crystal Palace in the upcoming transfer window. The 24-year-old graduate from the Real Madrid academy has not been getting a lot of action under Jose Mourinho in the ongoing season, and his parent club are looking to ship him elsewhere to provide him some game time.
Former treble-winning manager Jose Mourinho joined the Giallorossi in May after a failed stint with Tottenham Hotspur last season. The manager had signed Tammy Abraham from Chelsea for just over 40 million Euros, which sidelined the Spaniard from getting regular starts. Mayoral has made just four league appearances this season and has scored just one goal and assisted one across all competitions.
The striker was an important member of the forward line last season, scoring 17 goals and assisting six times in 45 appearances, 10 of which came in Serie A. He was proving to be a lethal presence up front for the side but has fallen out of consideration under the Portuguese manager.
He has accumulated a total of 246 minutes of playing time this entire season, which came as a disappointment for all parties involved. As it stands, it appears like he could be heading to Crystal Palace. According to Fiorentina.IT, the Eagles can land him on a permanent deal if they can pay Real a sum in the regoin of 15 million euros.
It will be an interesting deal to look out for, as in August, Palace had signed the very talented Odsonne Edouard from Celtic with the availability of Christian Benteke. The side are currently reliant a bit heavily on Chelsea loanee Connor Gallagher for all the creative input, and perhaps might require a player like Mayoral, who can chip in with both creative and goal-scoring contributions.
Crystal Palace, who signed former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira as a manager in July, are widely regarded as one the most promising projects in European football. The team appears well drilled under the former French midfielder and are looking to finish in European positions at the end of this season. They already registered some massive results this season, including a stunning 2-0 win at Etihad against Manchester City.
It might not come as a massive surprise if Mayoral considers Palace to be a promising prospect for his future and the price tag inserted on the player is not beyond the reach of the English club. Vieira would love to add a player of his mold and quality into the setup to further push Palace on the points table.
As it stands, Mayoral’s current club are having a topsy-turvy ride themselves in the league. They find themselves sixth on the points table with 32 points and are currently 14 points behind league leader Inter Milan, and two points behind fifth-placed Juventus. They also progressed to the next round of the UEFA Conference League, finishing on top of their group table with 13 points.
Mayoral found it incredibly difficult to break into the golden Real Madrid side, which lifted the Champions League trophy four times in five seasons. He made a total of 33 appearances for the record-Spanish champions and scored seven times before he was shipped out to Wolfsburg and Levante for two different loan spells.
