Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva, who joined the club in August 2020, has reportedly received a lucrative offer to leave Chelsea at the end of the 2021/22 season. The veteran centre-back played a key role in the London club’s Champions League victory last season.
Naturally, at 37, the Brazillian is not able to feature in all of the Blues’ games this season. However, he has still played a part in 15 games this season, including five appearances in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
The Brazilian is still a valuable member of the squad, having done extremely well in most games that he has featured in. The former Paris Saint-Germain captain has lost some pace over the years, but still more than makes up for it with his defensive capabilities.
Silva is out of contract in the summer of 2022, along with three other defenders at Stamford Bridge, which has also placed his time at Chelsea in doubt. Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window Podcast has revealed that the South American has received a “significant financial offer” from an undisclosed club in the Gulf, attempting to lure him away from Chelsea.
“It is our information that we have obtained here at the Transfer Window that Thiago Silva has a significant financial offer to continue his career in the Middle East, which of course in terms of money would be attractive because it would be tax-free and the leagues, of course, are not overly competitive. But Silva himself is extremely competitive.”
he said.
However, reports have also suggested that Chelsea themselves are currently in the middle of contract negotiations with Silva and plan to offer him a year’s extension, stretching his stay at the London club till 2023.
However, the player will have the final say with regards to his future as he will be a free agent at the end of the season, allowing him to make the choice of whether to move to the Middle East or continue at Chelsea.
