Another name from the Red Bull circuit is about to join Manchester United’s coaching staff under Ralf Rangnick in the coming days. Ewan Sharp, who had worked with the German manager before at Red Bull New York, was also with him at Lokomotiv Moscow before Manchester United came swooping in for the 63-year-old.
After Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by the club for a set of poor results, Michael Carrick took over for three games until Rangnick could get his Visa approval and left the club immediately after that. Kieran McKenna, another man who had been working in the coaching staff since the Jose Mourinho days at the club, was appointed manager of Ipswich Town a few days ago.
It looks like the club is set for a massive overhaul under the former RB Leipzig manager, with a number of assistants added to the coaching staff. They had already appointed Chris Armas and Sasha Lense to work in the background with the team. Armas worked previously as manager of New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC, whereas Lense is a renowned sports psychologist.
Among the coaching staff members of Solskjaer, only Mike Phelan has managed to keep his position. The 59-year-old, who previously worked with Sir Alex Ferguson at the club, boasts of great experience and technical expertise, making him a very useful prospect for the side.
The new member in the squad, Ewan Sharp, is predominantly focused on scouting the opposition players, match-planning, and in-match and post-match analysis for the players. He will be working closely with the first-team squad, while also having an eye on the youth setup of Manchester United. Sharp was a member of the Toronto coaching staff under the management of Armas.
The Red Devils have picked up back-to-back wins in the Premier League under Rangnick, defeating Crystal Palace and Norwich City 1-0 each. Although the goals are yet to come in thick and fast, fans have been impressed with the initial work put in by the interim manager. Their last two games were postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in the club and will next feature against Newcastle on December 27.
