After Chelsea Director Marina Granovskaia had hinted at a possible swap deal to bring back Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard, it is now believed that the Belgian is open to the move as well.
The Stamford Bridge club is currently in negotiation with four defenders who are running out of contracts this summer, and with the January window approaching fast, this is their last chance to ship out some of them for a transfer fee. It is believed that Antonio Rudiger is demanding higher wages, which Chelsea are not willing to meet.
Club captain Thiago Silva, who was with manager Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain, is expected to extend his contract for another year as he is enjoying life in London with the club supporters showing great adulation for him. The club are expected to make progress in this regard soon, increasing Granovskaia’s workload stupendously leading up to the New Year.
Eden Hazard had joined Chelsea back in 2012 from Lille, right after the club had won the Champions League. He had an immediate impact on the Premier League, lighting up the stage with his dribbling skills and sensational finishing, soon establishing himself as one of the most sparkling footballers in the world.
In his time with Chelsea, he won the Premier League title twice, once each under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte. He was named PFA Player of the Year twice in his time at the club, first in 2014/15, and then in his final season in 2018/19. He was also just the second recipient of the Premier League Playmaker of the season, which he won in his final season for making the most assists (15).
The Blues currently are struggling to cope with the injuries they have among midfielders, which led to a major slump in form. They dropped points against Manchester United at home and then lost to West Ham courtesy of last-gasp winner from Arthur Masuaku.
Although the club is not expected to make any significant signing in January, a swap deal with Real Madrid to ship out one of the defenders could bring in their talismanic winger back at the Bridge.
