Since joining the club for a then-world record fee in 2016, Paul Pogba has been subject to great criticism for not reaching the standards he was expected to hit. For a long period of time, his agent Mino Raiola has been enticing a move away from the Old Trafford-based club, and with his contract ending in 2022, it seems like the player will move out as free agent.
Manchester United’s new man in charge Ralf Rangnick, however, reckons that no player should be begged to stay at a club of this stature. The Frenchman, who has been out for a while this season nursing an injury, has apparently spoken to the new manager on a telephone call for 10-15 minutes.
He mentioned that if a player doesn’t want to play for a club like United, it makes no sense to convince him to stay. The German added that he will be waiting for the player to come back, before taking a decision on his stance.
“If a player doesn’t want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don’t think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.
Let’s have him come back, get fully fit and training with the team, then we will see where we stand,”
Rangnick said.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has mentioned a few days ago that there are many offers on the table for the French midfielder, and he is trying his best to find him a suitable club. According to Raiola, the club has offered a contract extension, but the 28-year-old is yet to make a decision on it.
He also has interest from former club Juventus, but their current financial turmoil lays clouds over a potential transfer happening. His agent also mentioned clubs like Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid multiple times in the past, but the sporting world must wait a little longer to see more conclusive steps taken by Pogba and his team.
