The Rossoneri are suffering a minor injury crisis, with several of their key players currently on the sidelines. As a result, the Rossoneri have decided to dip into the winter transfer market and bring in cover.
Injuries to Simon Kjaer and Pietro Pellegri have left AC Milan decimated. The pair join a long injury list that threatens to derail an otherwise impressive season for the Rossoneri, with the club vying for its first Serie A title since 2011/12. As a result, the Italian giants have decided to dip into their coffers and bring in replacements in the upcoming January transfer window.
At present, AC Milan have only one fit senior striker in their squad, the 40-year-old Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose minutes have to be managed carefully. Pietro Pellegri and Rafael Leao both pulled up injured last week, joining Olivier Giroud and Ante Rebic on the sidelines. The only other option Milan currently have in their books is 20-year-old Daniel Maldini, albeit he, too, isn’t a natural striker.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are eyeing a move for Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic to counter their injury issues up front. The Serbian hasn’t hit the mark since joining Los Blancos in a big-money move from Eintracht Frankfurt and even returned to the German side last January for a short loan in an attempt to recapture his form. Jovic scored four goals in 18 appearances back in Frankfurt and returned to Real Madrid in the summer, for whom he scored his first of the season this past weekend.
Jovic could be joined by his compatriot Nikola Milenkovic in Milan, who – as per Gazzetta – is a potential target to replace the injured Kjaer. 24-year-old Milenkovic currently plays for Fiorentina, whom he joined from Partizan Belgrade in 2017. He has since made 141 appearances for La Viola and, in the meantime, has been linked with several of Europe’s top sides. However, should a move for Milenkovic not pan out, Milan could alternatively target Lazio’s Luiz Felipe.
