Veteran batsman Robin Uthappa is excited to CSK and wants to to be the first batsman to score 1000 runs in a single IPL campaign.
Robin Uthappa has had a great IPL career since its inception in 2008 having represented teams like the Mumbai Indians (2008), Royal Challengers Bangalore (2009-2010), Pune Warriors India (2011-2013), Kolkata Knight Riders (2014-2019) and most recently the Rajasthan Royals (2020).
In the 189 matches that he has played in the IPL, he has scored 4607 runs at an average of 27.92. The highest score in his IPL career has been a brilliant 47-ball 87 that he scored against the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017. In the all-time batting leaders list of the IPL, Uthappa is currently among the top 10, standing at rank nine.
His best time in the IPL has arguably been during his tenure with the Kolkata Knight Riders, playing under Gautam Gambhir’s leadership. In 2014, he had his best IPL season, having won the Orange Cap after scoring 660 runs. KKR would also go on to win the IPL that year.
Although Uthappa has been a consistently good performer during his IPL career, his last season with the Rajasthan Royals was disappointing. He scored just 196 runs in 12 matches, which he would want to correct coming into the new campaign.
Now with the Chennai Super Kings, the main goal for Uthappa would be to help his team lift the trophy this year, but for him personally, there is one milestone to accomplish – to be the first batsman to score 1000 runs in an IPL season.
In a recent conversation with ESPN Cricinfo, Uthappa opened up about his preparations for the tournament this year and touched upon various points. When asked what his personal goal was for this campaign, he said,
To be the first guy to score 1000 runs in a season.
The highest tally for the most runs scored in a single edition is 973 – which Virat Kohli accomplished in 2016, a year when he scored four hundred in the tournament.
