Plans are underway for a Manchester United overhaul under new boss Ralf Rangnick who is reportedly interested in bringing some of his former RB Leipzig colleagues to Old Trafford.
The German will be in the stands when United take on Arsenal in the Premier League tonight. On November 29, he joined the Red Devils on a six-month plus two-year deal, the latter part of which he will spend close to the boardroom in a consultant capacity. Reports indicate that Rangnick has already made significant demands to begin his overhaul, which includes a raid at his former club RB Leipzig.
The right side of defense is one of the areas of concern for United, with stalwart Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s form this season a slight worry. Diogo Dalot is an option for the Red Devils in that area of the pitch – although the club did spend the summer chasing after Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier to shore up the defence.
90min report that a potential target for Rangnick is RB Leipzig’s Nordi Mukiele, whom the German signed when in charge of the club in 2018.
In the four years, the Frenchman has made over a hundred appearances for the side and has become an important first-team player. The 24-year-old has 18 months left on his current Leipzig deal, and is thought to be of interest to Rangnick, who feels that the 24-year-old will improve the team in both the short and the long term.
Defence isn’t the only area of concern for Manchester United, who, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, showed deficiencies all over the pitch. Eurosport names Amadou Haidara and Christopher Nkunku – both of Leipzig – as potential targets for the Red Devils in the upcoming winter window, as part of Rangnick’s squad overhaul.
Haidara climbed the Red Bull ladder and joined Leipzig from sister club Salzburg in 2019. Nkunku arrived the same year as Haidara, albeit the route he took to Germany was significantly different; the Frenchman came through the Paris Saint-Germain academy and made 78 first-team appearances before leaving in search of regular playing opportunities.
