Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva got some criticism ahead of the Premier League game against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, from United legend Paul Scholes. The midfielder of the yester generation noted that Cristiano Ronaldo will find it easy to go past him, and these comments did not go well with the Brazilian.
As it turns out, United sneaked out a draw against the league leaders and European champions. Jadon Sancho got his first Premier League goal for the club banking on a terrible error from Jorginho, but the Blues got back on level terms courtesy a penalty earned by Silva, and converted by his compatriot.
The Blues had the better chances and played with a much higher tempo throughout the fixture. The visiting club showed just about enough resistance to deny the league contenders two crucial points, but Silva ended up having a sensational game.
He blocked one shot, made five defensive duels, made three clearances and eight recoveries during the game. He smartly sneaked in a leg when Aaron Wan-Bissaka tried to make a defensive clearance, the instance when he won his side the penalty.
Silva responded to a Chelsea fan page that had these comments from Scholes.
“It is always easy, especially for those who have stopped playing!!”
he mentioned this in the comments with a few laughing emojis.
The duel Scholes mentioned, between Ronaldo and Silva, did not last a long time as the Portuguese striker was brought on in the 66th minute. This was only the second game since coming back to Old Trafford, where Ronaldo found himself on the bench at kick-off, the other game being against Everton, which also finished 1-1 at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Brazilian has been having a terrific time in England since coming here last season after his PSG team lost in the Champions League final to Bayern Munich. He signed a short-term contract but is expected to stay beyond the end of this season. Since reuniting with Thomas Tuchel, he found himself at the top of his game and has won the faith of those who bleed blue.
