Liverpool continued their perfect run in the UEFA Champions League by beating FC Porto 2-0. Meanwhile, Manchester City avenged their earlier defeat to Paris Saint Germain by beating the Parisians 2-1.

Liverpool remain one of three sides to have a perfect record in the tournament so far – the other two being Ajax and Bayern Munich. The Reds recorded their fifth win in five by beating a spirited Porto 2-0 at Anfield. Liverpool’s win keeps the competition open in Group B with Porto, AC Milan, and Atletico Madrid all within a point of each other heading into the final matchday.

Thiago opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the second half after Sadio Mane had a goal correctly ruled out for offside in the first. Thiago Alcantara scored a stunner – rifling the loose ball into the bottom corner from 30 yards out after Porto had failed to clear their lines from a set-piece.

Liverpool then had another goal ruled out in the 62nd minute: Takumi Minamino, who poked the ball home from close range, was adjudged to have done so from an offside position.

Nevertheless, Mohamed Salah put the game to bed just eight minutes later, when he collected a ball from Jordan Henderson on the right side of the box, dummied past Matheus Uribe, and fired a low, powerful shot inside the near post.

Elsewhere, Manchester City, looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat on matchday 2 of the Champions League, hosted Paris Saint-Germain. However, things looked to have gone awry when Kylian Mbappe gave the Parisians the lead in the 50th minute.

Lionel Messi played a crucial part in creating the chance for the Frenchman; the six-time Ballon d’Or winner exchanged the ball with Ander Herrera on the edge of the box before drifting wide and picking out Mbappe at the back post with a low cross.

Manchester City weren’t behind for long. Raheem Sterling equalized in the 63rd minute, converting a cross from Kyle Walker from close range. Pep Guardiola’s men completed the turnaround in the 76th minute when Riyad Mahrez picked out Bernardo Silva at the far post, and the Portuguese playmaker set Gabriel Jesus up for the finish with a deft first touch. City, as a result, went through to the next round as group winners.
