A dominant Manchester City deservedly came away with all three points from their latest Premier League fixture at home against Everton. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte got his first league win in charge of Spurs – a 2-1 comeback success against Leeds United.
City kept pace with league leaders Chelsea as they beat Everton 3-0 at Etihad on November 21. The Toffees kept the Citizens at bay for much of the first half – thanks, largely, to an impressive Jordan Pickford performance – but had their resolve broken just before the interval.
The ball, only half cleared from a corner, fell to Joao Cancelo deep inside the Everton half. The Portugal international, unchallenged, picked a sensational outside-of-the-boot pass to Raheem Sterling and the Englishman volleyed the ball past Pickford, first time of asking.
City doubled their lead in the 55th minute with a goal equally impressive in nature. It was central midfielder Rodri who added his name to the scoresheet by smashing a loose ball into the roof of the net from 25 yards.
Bernardo Silva made it three late on in the second half. The Portugal international got a lucky break as Cole Palmer’s shot bounced off a defender and landed in his feet. With just Pickford to beat, he carefully picked his spot and punctuated a dominant performance from City.
Later on, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Antonio Conte registered his first league win in charge of Spurs. Conte’s team went into the break behind due to a goal just before half-time from Daniel James. The Welshman found himself at the right place, at the right time, to touch in a dangerous cross from Jack Harrison.
Tottenham equalized in the 58th minute as Lucas Moura did well to keep the ball alive by the touchline before playing a simple pass to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Dane, arriving inside the box, side-footed the ball into the corner with goalkeeper Illan Meslier off his line. Spurs then took the lead in the 69th minute.
Eric Dier’s deflected free-kick hit the post, and with Meslier committed to one side, an alert Sergio Reguilon raced on to the loose ball and tapped it in from close range.
