Two teams in desperate need of 3 points, Norwich City and Aston Villa, capped off brilliant performances in their respective games to welcome their new manager.
Dean Smith’s side came from a goal behind to win 2-1 against Southampton, with Teemu Pukki and Grant Hanley getting the goals for Norwich City. Two late goals from Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins earned Steven Gerrard his first three points in the Premier League.
Newcastle United and Brentford played one of the games of the season at St. James’ Park on Eddie Howe’s debut as the Magpies boss. Jamal Lascelles scored inside 10 minutes for the hosts, but Ivan Toney and Rico Henry got Brentford ahead around the half-hour mark.
Joelington fired home a superb goal to make it 2-2 before the first half finished, but Lascelles’ own goal saw the Geordies trail. Allan Saint-Maximin scored and made his sixth goal contribution in the 75th minute to make it 3-3, which wrapped up a frantic game of football between two highly-spirited units.
Burnley and Crystal Palace played out a similar 3-3 draw in their clash at Turf Moor. Goals galored in the first half, Christian Benteke’s brace and Marc Guehi’s strike keeping Palace one goal ahead of Burnley. For the hosts, Ben Mee and Chris Wood scored inside 30 minutes as the sides went into the second half with a 2-3 scoreline. Maxwel Cornet got the leveller for Burnley early in the second half, and both sides saw out the remaining time to pick up a point each.
Chelsea travelled to Leicester City in a bid to continue their lead at the top of the table. They managed to keep yet another clean sheet, and scored thrice in the process, as the Foxes went down 3-0 to the reigning European champions.
Anotino Rudiger opened the scoring with a Ben Chilwell assist, and N’Golo Kante doubled the lead before first half. Christian Pulisic came off the bench to make it 3, as the Blues completed a commanding win.
Manchester United’s dreadful run continued in the Premier League, as they went 4-1 down to Ranieri’s Watford. David de Gea saved an early penalty against Ismaila Sarr, but couldn’t prevent Joshua King’s scrambling attempt as the hosts went 1-0 up. Sarr scored towards the end of the first half, and doubled United’s woes.
Donny van de Beek came off the bench to bring one back for Manchester United, setup brilliantly by Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. However, a red card for Maguire for a second bookable offense murdered the United fans’ hopes. Watford two late goals in the injury time to make it 4-1, which could mean that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be sacked in the coming few hours.
Liverpool thumped Arsenal at Anfield in a rather one-sided contest. The Gunners started on a decent note defensively, but the sheer firepower of the Reds frontline was a bit too much for them to handle. Sadio Mane opened the scoring towards the end of the first half, with Trent Alexander-Arnold bagging yet another assist.
Diogo Jota scored almost immediately after the second 45 resumed, and Mohamed Salah made it three in the 73rd minute. Takumi Minamino, who came on to replace Jota, got his first goal of the league campaign to cap off a sensational result for the Reds of Merseyside.
West Ham’s sensational run came to an end, as they lost 1-0 to Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton. Raul Jiminez scored the only goal for the hosts, as the Hammers kept chasing but failed to finish their chances.
