England will have to cope without their star players Jofra Archer and Joe Root for the ODI series against India. While Root has flown back home after the conclusion of the Test series, Archer is said to be injured.
Archer is currently nursing an elbow injury, confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The pacer will fly back home in order to investigate the issue further. It is said that the condition of his elbow deteriorated during the T20 series. This also means that the Rajasthan Royals will be without their star bowler’s services for the start of the Indian Premier League 2021 next month.
The ECB medical team will assess the player and, together with Jofra, develop a treatment plan and a return-to-play schedule in due course. As a consequence, Jofra will miss the start of this year’s Indian Premier League.
Jofra’s elbow issue has deteriorated over the course of the T20I series and made it increasingly difficult for him to maintain performance levels. He has been deemed unfit for selection for the ODI series that features matches on 23, 26 and 28 March,
an ECB statement said.
Losing a player of Archer’s stature is huge. England will definitely miss him a lot in this series as he sets the tone for them, opening the bowling with blistering pace and accuracy and bowling those crucial death overs. They will also miss Joe Root, one of the best batsmen in the world today, who has flown back home after the test series.
England captain Eoin Morgan stated that Root’s absence from the England squad leaves a massive hole going into the India series.
I hope it doesn’t change the dynamics too much but obviously losing Joe Root leaves a massive hole,
he told reporters.
