Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to survive two harrowing defeats at the hands of rivals Liverpool and Manchester City. But, should Manchester United decide to make a change, they are confident of getting Brendan Rodgers from Leicester City.
The Norwegian is expected to be in the United dugout for their game against Watford on the other side of the international break. However, recent defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as an inconsistent start to the season, have put him under increased scrutiny. He is battling for his job, with reports claiming that the club has already started evaluating his potential replacements.
One name which has popped up in recent days is that of Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irishman took over Leicester midway through the 2018/19 season, with the team languishing in mid-table, and has since transformed the fortunes of the club. Under Rodgers, the Foxes finished fifth in consecutive seasons, missing out on Champions League football both times on the final day of the season.
Mirror reports that United are confident of appointing Rodgers as their next manager, should they decide to sack Solskjaer. The tactician is thought to have a clause in his Leicester contract that allows him to leave the Foxes should one of the big sides come calling. Rodgers has previous experience managing one of the big six Premier League sides; the Northern Irishman was the manager of Liverpool from 2012 till 2015 and took the Reds to within two points of the league title in the 2013/14 season.
While Rodgers has rightly earned plaudits for turning Leicester into a top-four contender, his team has been slow out of the blocks this season. The Foxes, with four wins and four losses, are only 12th in the league after 11 games and are third in their Europa League group, behind Napoli and Legia Warsaw. The East Midlands side did win the FA Community Shield, though, and are in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup.
