Chief of Cricket Ireland, Warren Deutrom, has confirmed that Ireland will tour the USA in December 2021. It will be a historic assignment for the USA, as it will be their first bilateral coming together at home against a Test-playing nation.
The tour will include one warmup T20 fixture, two T20Is and three ODIs. Out of these games, one T20I and two ODIs will be day-night fixtures. The tour will start with the warmup game on December 20, and will be heading into the holiday season with a game on December 26 as well. The final game of the tour will be played on December 30.
Deutrom has said that this tour will be crucial for Ireland’s preparation for the World Cup Super League series against West Indies. He also heaped praises on US’s development in Cricket over the years. The agreement states that the USA will tour reciprocally in the coming three years. All these games in the confirmed tour will be played at Central Broward Regional Park, Florida.
“The chance to play five competitive white-ball fixtures – including three matches under lights – will be important as our players return to the field after a few weeks off.
With a large population of Irish expats and immigrants in the United States, we hope to see a good turn out of support for our squad and look forward to spending time in one of the USA’s best cricket facilities.”
The USA Cricket has mentioned that each country’s U19 teams will also face-off against each other, which will be a crucial preparation ahead of the U19 World Cup that will be hosted in the Caribbean Islands and will begin in March.
They also confirmed that the Irish men’s team will depart to the United States on December 16 and will move to the West Indies on 31.
The US men’s team is currently taking part in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers for 2022, which will be hosted by Australia.
