Man United will now turn its head towards the target of bringing down Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. The report in London suggests that the Red Devils are now no more interested in pursuing established English striker Harry Kane.
Manchester United’s interest in Harry Kane is a long-term one. They have been placing bids to Tottenham Hotspurs since Louis Van Gaal took over as the club’s coach. The interest in Kane continued even after the Dutchman left the club. However, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the club, the Red Devils want to focus on bringing on a young goal-scorer with the hunger to challenge the spot upfront instead of a seasoned and experienced goal-scorer in Harry Kane.
Manchester United’s current striking options are Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial, all of whom have been misfiring throughout the season. The Uruguayan is also linked with a move to Argentine side Boca Juniors in the summer. Greenwood and Martial have just managed to score five goals when combined in the Premier League so far.
As for Kane, who has established himself as one of the top goal-scorers globally in the last five years, he would look for a tougher challenge in the other Premier League clubs or even abroad. Kane is a striker who needs to win titles to establish his supremacy in front of goal, something which the North London side has struggled to do so far. Tottenham Hotspurs are also likely to miss a Champions League berth next season, further solidifying Kane’s stand.
As for Manchester United, Erling Haaland will provide the much-needed agility and pace to an ailing Manchester United attacking line-up. Haaland’s transfer will demand at least 100 million pounds as a transfer fee, which could detriment their chances of landing the deal given Old Trafford’s financial strains. Haaland has a 66 Million Pounds release clause, but that only activates in the next season. With more than 10 clubs in the running for Haaland’s signature, United will have to be at their best in the transfer market.
