The former Australian bowler reckons Ashwin is a wonderful cricketer and that he must feature in Sunday’s match against New Zealand.
Team India will finally be in action on Sunday, October 31. While teams like Pakistan and England have played three-won three during the last week, the Men in Blue will only be playing their second game as they battle it out against New Zealand.
The Indian think tank will have their work cut out as they make important decisions regarding the likes of Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami. The spin department can also be altered as Varun Chakravarthy had a night to forget as the Pakistani batsmen took a liking towards him.
Brett Lee feels that Ravi Ashwin must play against the Kiwis today. Although the off-spinner hasn’t played a T20I since 2017, he has enough experience to perform at the biggest stage in world cricket.
“If you are after an angle about Ashwin, he is first and foremost a wonderful cricketer. I am a big fan, and he has got a lot to offer, he is very, very experienced. He is a great leader, and of course, he can play every single game,”
Lee told Times Now.
With Pakistan winning all three games so far, this contest between India and NZ is almost like a quarter-final. Both of them are expected to beat Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia in their remaining matches. Hence, the winner of today’s match in Dubai will take a giant leap towards securing their place in the semi-finals.
The 44-year-old also stated that he was impressed with the Kiwis. He said the team has good bowlers who can pick up wickets during the powerplay and towards the death overs. Lee also gave credit to New Zealand batters, who are capable of dominating the game.
