Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has shared his conversation with MS Dhoni about CSK’s plan to dismiss him and the different types of finishers in cricket.
MS Dhoni is highly regarded as one of the best finishers of all time whereas Stoinis is right up there when it comes to scoring off the last few overs in the current generation. Recently, Dhoni and Stoinis managed to catch up and speak about finishing games.
Stoinis said on The Grade Cricketer’s YouTube channel that MS Dhoni believes there are two kinds of finishers. One type of finisher is who takes the game right down to the wire, and the other type of finisher is who takes risks early on to keep the run rate in check.
“It was very interesting he did say that it’s very obvious how some people want to take some responsibility and stay until the end whereas some people are willing to take the risk early.”
Stoinis shared what Dhoni told him about fitness and training:
”Work on your weakness as long as it’s not taking anything away from your strength. You might work on the short ball, and then you start missing the full ball, which was a really, really nice filter for me for training,”
Stoinis’ Premier League campaign was derailed due to a hamstring injury which kept him out of action for most of the United Arabic Emirates leg. He has been hitting the ball well in the warm-up games and scored a handy 248 against the Proteas in the tournament opener.
Australia started their T20 World Cup campaign with a bang by beating South Africa convincingly. Their next match will be against Sri Lanka today at 7:30 PM IST in Dubai.
