While the Dutchman is enduring a difficult spell at Barcelona, the club is hoping to bring one of Jurgen Klopp or Thomas Tuchel to replace him at the end of the season.
Barcelona’s latest loss leaves them ninth in the table and Ronald Koeman fighting for his job. He oversaw a 2-1 defeat on the weekend against fierce rivals Real Madrid and was confronted by angry fans outside the stadium subsequently.
Reports emerged following the loss that the head coach will be given three more games to save his job, starting with the midweek fixture against Rayo Vallecano. Fresh rumors have now emerged over whom the club wants to replace their ex-player in the dugout – and if it is possible.
As per Sport, Barcelona dream of appointing Klopp as the manager of the senior team at the end of the 2021/22 season. The German is under contract at Liverpool until 2024 – having already spent seven years at the club – and has given no indication if he wants to quit the job. Nonetheless, Barcelona are monitoring Klopp’s situation closely and will attempt to tempt him away from Anfield.
Similarly, Barcelona are also observing Tuchel’s position at Chelsea. The German signed a long-term contract with the London-based outfit before the start of the season – a reward for leading the club to their second Champions League title despite signing on just six months earlier. Tuchel is admired at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are known to fire managers if things go south upon short notice.
Ex-Barcelona captain Xavi Hernandez continues to be linked with the job, which will remain Koeman’s for the immediate future, at least. The Dutchman’s contract at Camp Nou is up at the end of the current season, but Barcelona will consider sacking him immediately if the results do not improve. The team has dropped points in five of their nine league matches so far, whilst also losing two of their three Champions League group games.
