Defeat in their opening game against Australia is now a thing of the past, said South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada while highlighting he is instead looking forward to play against West Indies in Super 12 encounter in Dubai on Tuesday.
Windies may have themselves suffered a humiliating loss versus England in their first game, but according to Rabada, the defending champions can’t be underestimated by his team.
“They’re a dangerous team. You can’t underestimate anyone. Tomorrow is a new day. We’re going to have to go and be as disciplined as we were in our first game [with the ball]. We cannot take anything for granted,”
the pacer was quoted as saying by ICC.
Rabada stated it’s important the Proteas don’t dwell over their loss to the Aussies too much since it was not the case of them getting hammered all their way.
The South African side had their moments defending a paltry score of just 118 on Saturday (October 23) in Abu Dhabi. At one stage, they reduced Australia to 38/3. But ultimately, the lack of runs on the board came back to haunt them.
Rabada himself had a reasonably good outing. The 26-year-old scored a useful lower-order knock of 19* to take his team close to the 120-mark and bowled an insufficient but tight spell of 1/28 off his 4 overs.
“It’s just one game that we couldn’t get over the line. Tomorrow is another day. Why be negative about it? Be positive. Whatever happens, happens,”
“Rarely do you ever have a perfect cricket game. If you also have a look at Australia, as well, we bowled extremely well, but yeah, their bowling outshined their batting, too.”
said the pacer amid talks of West Indies being the favourites for their coming game.
The 26-year-old backed his team to play at their best with “proper intensity” against the Calypso Kings, who’ll also be desperate to get a win on the board after being bowled out for just 55 in their painful loss against the Three Lions. A victory for either side will get their journey in order, but a loss threatens to ruin their whole campaign.
