In what comes as a boost for the Chennai Super Kings, star Indian players Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina have reached the club’s base in Mumbai. Both Jadeja and Raina are undergoing their mandatory seven-day quarantine.
2020 wasn’t a great year for the Chennai Super Kings. They had their worst-ever finish in the history of the Indian Premier League. It was the first time that CSK failed to reach the play-offs in the IPL season. They had ended in the top four in each of the 11 seasons they had played before 2020, and they had also reached eight finals, winning the title three times. The MS Dhoni-led side finished seventh in 2020 as they won just six games and lost eight.
They will be hoping for a turnaround in 2021. The three-time IPL champions have received a boost in the form of Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina. The star Indian duo have landed in Mumbai and are in the middle of their seven-day quarantine. Raina had reached the team base (Mumbai) on the 24th of March (Wednesday), while Jadeja touched down on the 26th (Friday).
Jadeja has been out of action for more than two and a half months now. The left-handed all-rounder suffered a fractured thumb in the third Test against Australia in Sydney in early January. The dislocated thumb needed surgery before he flew down to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The Saurashtra all-rounder also posted a video of him practising recently and returning to batting and bowling after a long hiatus. There were speculations about whether he’ll be fit in time before the IPL starts, but he seems to have recovered quickly.
Meanwhile, Raina, who missed the 2020 season of the IPL due to personal reasons, is back. His absence at No. 3 was felt last season, and he adds vital experience to the side once again. The Uttar Pradesh left-hander played the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier this year.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni and Co. will be practising at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The first practice session will be on the 27th of March (Saturday).
